Scanning Systems Special Point Of Sale Support Event At Sofitel
There was much regret by retailers over the non-attendance of POS vendors at the recent Metcash expo. Scanning Systems Australia was one such absent company and as a regular stall holder at the event, fielded many calls from grocery retailers enquiring as to it where-abouts this year.
Thankfully, SSA ran a special event the day after the expo finished, where 2 separate session were well attended by numerous IGA retailers. Given the gala dinner the night before it was a seriously pleasant surprise to have so many retailers turn up, and SSA responded in kind.
Each session kicked off with a short introduction from National Sales Manager, Stuart Harris. “We were keen to emphasize the business enhancing power that Profit Track has today” Stuart comments, adding “with being so busy most retailers do not realize the abundance of features they have at their fingertips that will help them improve their business and profitability.” Stuart challenged attendees to put more commitment to making the greatest use of their Profit Track system.
Managing Director, David Hagen, followed up with a powerful session on many new and existing features in Profit Track. David drilled down to the nitty-gritty and inspired attendees with useful content on “where am I today” indicators, and stock turn analysis. “We all need the ability to see where we are financially at any given point,” David points out, “and many POS system simply cannot deliver. And with the ability to monitor stock turn information for each and every product ….this adds a very useful piece of detail. We go that extra mile”.
The sessions finished with some distinctly comprehensive training from Quality Assurance Manager Greg de Weger. Greg covered a number of key components in Profit Track that kept everyone riveted beyond the allocated session times.
All in all it was clear to see that everyone received some exceptional content. And SSA made it abundantly clear that it is very much interested in aiding business retailers to achieve performance in their business’s.
Corporate point of sale contracts are lining up.
On the back of pivotal international roll outs Scanning Systems is attracting some exciting attention on the global market. Currently rolling out 50 plus stores for another notable international retailer, Scanning Systems has now been seen as a viable option against much bigger heavyweights including Retalix, IBM, and NCR. The impression that core system “Profit Track” is having is creating interest in many grocery circles.
“One of the key features of Profit Track is it speed and effectiveness for larger retailers” says Managing Director, David Hagen, “and the ability to handle host files both at head office and at store level.”
“ Profit Track has been specifically designed to competently manage host data across a range of significant technological variations, and the ease at which our technology can be adjusted to meet the requirements of group retailers intrigues our prospects significantly. They get quite excited about it.”
Many advanced techniques have been added to Profit Track to add to its effectiveness as a business tool. Product purchasing is an area where profitability can be improved dramatically. Profit Track intuitively calculates the purchase trends and applies this to the operational KPI’s and the result is distinctive gross margin improvement.
And taking all the guesswork away from the checkout significantly reduces point of sale shrinkage. Profit Track provides for a range of integrated services and this ensures that transactions occur via a single terminal. With the ability to reference the database quickly the checkout operator need never call for floor information again, and this aids the service process as well.
Profit Track is now at the forefront of POS technology and the retail industry is taking notice here and abroad. The retailers now using Profit Track are now singing its praises, and maybe its time to see why!

Why SSA point of sale solution is more appealing to retailers when capex is under pressure..
Some products are just simply irresistible! There is something about them that appeals independent circumstances or perceptions.
In recent workshops it was a common unprovoked comment by attendees….
“We just love the software”… – referring to the
POS software “Profit Track” written at
Scanning Systems Australia.
It was evident to all that Profit Track has become one of Australia’s best loved POS systems, and even through a product demonstration, the system would sell itself purely on its capability. It is not difficult to see the change in peoples faces once they see the functionality and the ease of use of this advanced business solution.
But what is that really gets people hooked?
On discussing this with several users the answer would often be…”Its just so simple to use, and it is easy to look at” as a first up comment. By this they refer to the simple single screen efficiency, and the distinctive blue hue that is so easy on the eye. And if you have been looking at a screen totally white or white with grey, you notice this feature immediately when you maximize the Profit Track screen. The eyes simply relax as the blue screen appears.
The simplicity factor is also a key. SSA Managing Director, David Hagen, has always had a strong philosophy on his product….”build it better than the next one. Give the market more than what it is expecting”. This does not mean that you have to have every widget, but a specific focus to make functions simple and within a minimum number of actions has been key to the design of Profit Track from the beginning.

And simplicity is where many applications fall down. When it takes too long or there are too many clicks any operator would become frustrated, and the result is a negative energy towards the software. The strong energy that prevails around Profit Track is testimony to its general appeal amongst its user community, and indicates the way that Profit Track does assist business operations fluently.
Add to this visible financial net performance throughout the business and this become a POS system that’s hard to beat.

IGA retailers treated to more advanced POS software
The SSA stall at the TIR Expo in Hobart over the weekend of 21-22 May was a sensation attracting interest from both Profit Track customers and users of other POS systems. As one of the brighter technology stalls, State Manager Sandy Wallis and Sales Manager Stuart Harris, were at times swamped with visitors. The overflow attracted attention including a quick run-up by the Retail World correspondent.
Of interest to many was the integrated DVR security that now bundles with Profit Track POS. The ability to run live camera feeds through the POS lanes as well as back office servers has got everybody excited. Orders were through the roof. “This is a new dimension to retailing” Stuart Harris comments, “now it is possible for activity to be monitored in key locations throughout the shop, including at the checkouts. Not only is it possible to view live footage, but footage from any instance can be recalled in seconds.”
The application at the POS lane is significant. For customer service this provides the operator the ability to relate to any transaction and replay for the customer. This naturally dispels issues and arguments very quickly, while reducing the stress that may arise from a customer confrontation. Having visibility of the shop from the POS lanes also assists significantly with security, and more importantly staff safety.
Inventory Control and Automatic Ordering were also targeted, with Profit Track now being a well designed and effective inventory management software. Sandy Wallis demonstrated the capacity of Profit Track to release capital from redundant or non performing stock items, as well as just simply maintaining an appropriate stock level for average sales. Intelligent ordering aids the process by ordering only what is required for the next periods sales.
“We can see this visibly improving bottom-line performance in stores that have implemented both options” says Sandy, “and when you are identifying with improvements of 1-2% to GP then return on investment is not a difficult justification.”
Visitors were quick to comment on how simple the system was to use. Watching Sandy step through ordering and stock management procedures provided store owners full view of the way that Profit Track connects with the physical process.
Another extremely successful presentation from Scanning Systems Australia.

Adding Dimension to Customer Service with a Quality POS Solution
The real question is what can we do to generate extra sales and maintain profitability in tough economic times ….. where vision or expansion plans are put on hold due to constraints forced upon us by outside influences.
One idea that came out of a recent think tank at SSA was to present the importance of a customer loyalty program, fully integrated into the Point of Sale system with a view to building and maintaining customer confidence.
The first and possibly most important aspect of a technology based customer loyalty plan is that it assists your sales staff to greet your customers by name. The ability to identify a customer by name, congratulate them on a birthday or anniversary or some other important event that is recorded in the database, will impact significantly on a customers demeanour towards your business
By dedicated effort to this process you will provide an incentive for continuous patronage and achieve additional benefits for your business planning by gaining intelligence on customer shopping patterns. This is where you begin to recognise your customers and what is important to them.
Running a customer friendly point of sale system will highlight the customer each time they shop, especially if you have them listed on the database via the onboard loyalty program.
Customer details will immediately populate the POS screen upon swiping a card or entering a customer number. Vital information is available to the service staff and these people can then provide additional customer care or even provide an additional deal that you have instore.

epay Solution Completes the Prepaid Service Offering in Profit Track
Scanning Systems Australia completes its functionality in the prepaid services arena with the final accreditation for implementation of epay throughout Australia. Already providing epay integration to large customers in New Zealand, it was a formality for the process to set Scanning Systems as a key service integrator with well designed and fluent modules that run epay through the touch screen at point of sale.
Already providing integrated services for
Touch and XPOS, the addition of epay means that SSA completes its suite of prepaid services integrations, giving retailers the choice of services they desire. This can often vary from state to state, between urban and rural areas, and sometimes purely on the competition in the area.
What is epay? – the following definition from the epay website “…epay provides the service enabling you to top up your mobile, purchase calling cards and electronically access an extensive range of electronic products. With 18,000 retail-outlets around the country an epay retailer is never far away. With so many retail locations and so many of the biggest prepaid brands in Australia you’ve probably been prepaying with epay and never even known about it. “
Integrated epay means that SSA customers running the epay solution can now access and process transaction via the touch screen at the point of sale. There is no duplication of the transaction, and the process is quick and efficient. And secure, with all transactions being processed via POS lane.
The range of products available are calling cards, prepaid internet, gift cards and prepaid visa, navigation maps, music, movies and games, money transfers, and of course the full range of mobile phone top ups.
